Before you install POSReady 2009, ensure that your device meets the hardware and storage formatting requirements provided at Before You Install POSReady. You will also need a USB Flash drive with a capacity of 1 GB or greater to transfer the completed image from your workstation to your target device.

Configuration Manager 2007 Advanced Client can be installed on devices that run POSReady 2009 without any additional steps. The following procedures are provided as an example of how to build an image and then install that image on a device.

To create an Advanced Client-ready Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 image

  1. Insert a POSReady 2009 DVD into the DVD drive on your workstation. POSReady 2009 Companion Setup starts.
  2. Click Create USB Flash Drive Install.
  3. On the Install from USB Flash Drive screen, do the following:
    1. Select a USB Flash drive from the Select which Removable USB Drive to copy files to: list.
    2. On the Programs tab, select any programs that you need to include in your image.
    3. On the Languages tab, select any languages that you need to include in your image.
  4. Click Install. The setup program will convert the USB Flash to bootable media, and copy required installation files to that drive.
  5. After installation completes, add any additional storage drivers that will be needed by your device to the Drivers folder on the USB Flash drive.

  11. On the Language Settings screen, choose default language settings and supplemental language support settings, and then click Next.
  12. On the Regional Settings screen, select an option from the Geographical Location, Time Zone and Standards and Formats lists. Click Next.
  13. On the Installation Type screen, click Custom, and then click Next.
  14. On the Optional Components screen, select any optional components that you want to install, and then click Next. You can install optional components using Add/Remove Programs after completing the installation.
  15. On the Virtual Memory screen, set the paging file size to Custom Size, System Managed Size, or No Paging File, and then click Next. You can adjust the size of the paging file after completing the installation.
  16. On the Computer Name and Password screen, enter a name for the computer and enter the administrator password.
  17. On the TCP/IP Settings screen, enter network settings and then click Next.
  18. On the Network Participation screen, click Join a Workgroup or Join a Domain, and then enter details for the workgroup or domain.
  19. On the Finalizing Setup screen, verify your settings, and then click Install. The USB Flash drive must be connected during the installation process, and then removed when you are prompted to remove it at the end of the installation process.

After the installation process is complete, the First Boot Agent (FBA) will run. After the device completes FBA, you can copy the Configuration Manager 2007 Advanced Client installer to the device, and then install it.
